Nicki got me a welder for Christmas this year. I have a few project ideas but I thought this would be a good place to start. The cover for our fire pit has always rested directly on the hot stones in the center of the table. This has two effects that have always annoyed me. It means rain water pools up and the cover always has a green water mark around the middle. Additionally, we have to wait at least half an hour for the stones to cool down to put the cover on. This has been an even bigger issue with the increase in outdoor gatherings (even during the rainy winter) in 2020. I really want to be able to quickly wipe down the table and throw the cover over it before it cools and gets saturated with a light rain. I'm hoping that this simple project will take care of both problems by holding the cover up in the center.

As this is my first time welding, the welds are pretty terrible looking, but it all seems plenty strong enough for what it needs to do. I still need to clean off the mill scale and give it a clear coat, but I'm pretty happy with being able to get this done in one day, even with a baby in the house. It took about 3 hours total so far.
