When I joined Glowforge, I wanted a simple, functional project to get me started on laser cutting. I did a few tests and then cut this watch stand for my bedside table. I planned the design in CAD software, sent the design to the laser, and cut it out on Proofgrade Walnut.

I originally had an unfinished end at the top but my watch  slid around and I didn’t appreciate the aesthetics of the laminated wood showing through, so I put some leather in the laser cutter and repeated the top shape to make small patches for the watches to rest on.

The legs of the watch stands are made from three layers of plywood glued together and the base is two

layers. The legs friction fit into the base, so they can be replaced in the future. For example, I may want to try re-cutting the legs with the wood grain oriented vertically for a different effect.
