The Schlage Connect Z-Wave lock works with a SmartThings community app to enable remote management of user codes. There are still some settings that are programmed through the lock's programming codes. I found the Schlage manual to be pretty cryptic when it comes to what each setting actually does, so I'm summarizing that here for reference.

In general, the lock will acknowledge any programming with the same 2 beep/blink patterns:

1 beep: enabled; 2 beeps: disabled

Vacation mode

Vacation mode disables all keycodes on the lock, so you'll have to use the physical key or the programming code in order to get back in.

Enable: [Schlage] -> programming code -> 5

Disable: [Schlage] -> programming code -> 5

Beeper

This toggles the keypress beeps.

[Schlage] -> programming code -> 5

1 beep: enabled; 2 beeps: disabled

Lock and Leave

This setting allows you to lock the door, from the outside, by just pressing the [Schlage] button on the top of the keypad.

[Schlage] -> programming code -> 7

1 beep: enabled; 2 beeps: disabled

Auto Lock

This setting makes the lock auto-lock 30 seconds after unlocking, to essentially keep the door locked at all times.

[Schlage] -> programming code -> 9

1 beep: enabled; 2 beeps: disabled

Alarm Modes

The newer Schlage Connect locks have tamper and forced entry alarm modes enabled by the inside [Schlage] button. There are 3 modes:

  1. Activity - short beeps on every lock or unlock
  2. Tamper - 15 second loud alarm when lock picking is detected
  3. Forced entry - 3 minute loud alarm when forced entry is detected (e.g. kicking the door in)

How-to Geek has a good write-up.
